Broken by the Horde King by Zoey Draven

I’ve read some mixed reviews on this book, and I can see why.

I’m always ready for an angsty second chances romance, but the reason they separated was a little glossed over and the catalyst for them coming back together was too external for my liking. So I didn’t feel the full impact, even though I did enjoy seeing Kiran being single minded in trying to win Maeva back. The overarching series plot also didn’t move much, probably because it’s setting up for major events in the next book, which meant this book felt a bit like filler.

But, on the positive side, I really liked how different this was to earlier books in that it wasn’t another relationship with heavy captive/enemy vibes. Although human, Maeva was raised as Dakkari so there was no culture shock. She had a supportive family, and part of her arc was about her career as a healer, which gave a nice balance to the relationship angst.

So overall, not the strongest of the series, but I still enjoyed reading it.
