I really like Naomi Novik’s writing. I have read part of the Temeraire series (waiting for more books for the library) and Scholomance series. I also read Spinning Silver. If you like this, Spinning Silver(SS) is the most similar. The one thing I don’t like in both SS and Uprooted are the
relationships between very old men and young women.
This trope always bothers me. Otherwise I found to be captivating, well written, and overall beautiful stories. The way the author writes the worlds allows the reader to imagine woods looming up around them, the clang of swords, and the murmuring or spell work. Throughout the book I was captivated (I read it in two days)!
The other thing I want to comment on is that with both SS and Uprooted I felt like many stories were told in one book. It’s kind of like when someone makes a video in one part instead of many. When you are halfway through you think you’ve come to the precipice but there is half the story left. I couldn’t imagine how the rest of the books would be as good as what I already read but they were! I’ve never read a book quite like these.
