The Lonesome Crown
by Brian Lee Durfee
Where to begin, after almost 3000 pages of digesting Mr. Durfee’s world I can say that I enjoyed it very much. For fans of epic fantasy I think there is a ton to like here. I liken the writing to something similar of Joe Abercrombie or Patrick Rothfuss, with a writing style that isn’t overly wordy or complex which I appreciate. That isn’t to say there isn’t a fair amount of depth going on, because there are a number of characters fleshed out and participating in a tangled web of treachery. I gave this final book 4 stars and my only criticism was the pacing at the end. I realize the last half of the book was the crescendo of the entire story, but the pace was steamrolling me in the face to the point where I needed a break. On the flip side, there were many twists and turns in this finale that I was unprepared for and the author succeeded in keeping me guessing throughout. Overall I am very glad I read the trilogy in its entirety and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
