Hill Women: Finding Family and a Way Forward in the Appalachian Mountains by Cassie Chambers

4.0

Appalachian life, especially that  women and children is an ongoing interest for me. It saddens me so much that life in America is so driven by money and perceived prestige. The intelligence, strength and wit of the people is lost in these pursuits, and so many generations have lived in poverty. These folks are proud and hardworking, not looking for handouts.
In this story the first person in the family to graduate from high school and college was the mother of the first Ivy League student who became a lawyer and traveled the world before going back home to devote her life to helping other women succeed.
