The Dinner

Why are we jumping back in time so much? It would make sense if the flashbacks were actually significant. It doesn’t do anything to “hook” the reader in. I can’t stand when authors, early on in the book, mention a big shocking event or whatever but then they don’t explain it until very close to the end of the book, and think they can fill the middle with boring, nonsensical gibberish and they think that will keep the reader hooked in. I’d rather just look up how the book ends.
