I read this book nearly ten years ago and am left with a surreal memory of the experience. I do remember being infuriated by some of the clunky writing and yet, at the same time, thinking it one of the best stories ever told. Obviously time has coloured my memory of it but I can say for certain that it was an entertaining and ultimately uplifting read. Maybe time to dust it off for a reread...
