Newitz is a skilled writer, but I'll confess Autonomous didn't hook me immediately. I am glad I invested in it, though, because at some point I realized that I had become invested and eager to see the story unfold. Ultimately I think it paints a very grim view of a possible future that could grow quite organically from the roots of our own current conflicts and fears. For me the book didn't have a neat and tidy happy ending, but it had a hopeful ending, once the characters found connections between themselves and the voices that could make a difference. Thanks to Annalee for sharing those voices with us.
