I was super into this one at first. It’s a Rapunzel retelling. Zella is kept inside an apartment her whole life. Ethan brings her food and little else. He is her only contact with the outside world. Then two men break into the apartment, and even though they seem shady, she begs them to take her with them. Ryder, Maverick, and Enzo are not good men, but they’re good to her.Basically they fuck her a lot and then find her father who is still alive. The twist that Maverick and Zella knew each other as children was a little corny but fine. I was really annoyed that she kills Ethan, is completely traumatized, and then just gets over it with little to no explanation. She should’ve just been fine with it. It just made the ending feel rushed. And the book just kind of lost me a little there at the end. But I’m going to keep reading the series because the first part of this was so good.
