Three Men on the Bummel by Jerome K. Jerome

4.0

It's a bit scattered and random, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the follow-up account of a bicycling trip through Germany. Very funny bits about trying to speak foreign languages, overestimating how far you can ride, getting lost, troubles with the police, Ugly British travelers, and other wacky hijinks. One star was taken off for the uneven tone, including a serious conclusion with a creepy early-20th century description of the German people are kind, homely, rule-followers with a slavish adherence to policemen. Eerily accurate! But out of place in a book of tomfoolery.
