Came quite close to DNFing and only finished this to finish it. 90% of the plot is revealed in the first chapter, and the other 10% is a will-they won't-they plot around Jim and Eilis rekindling their old flame for each other and being unfaithful in their respective relationships. I ended up feeling tired by pretty much every character in this book and the fact that they weren't getting up to much. The book was very character-focused but I struggled to get into the characters' heads. Brooklyn was also just OK for me, so I think I may just not be the type of reader that Colm Toíbín writes for.
