This one did take me a bit to get into, but by the last 20%, I was IN. I can’t wait to continue on with this series!

Mia was (basically) orphaned as a child, and now hopes to seek revenge on those responsible, by training at a revered school for assassins. But like, these are kids training to become assassins, so it’s a bit of a bloody business…PLUS SHADOWS!! πŸ‘€

Once we finally arrived at the school, and we started to meet the other students, I finally settled into this book, and really enjoyed the story from there. There are so many great characters, and I loved the twists and turns we got with them all. (I’m still not 100% believing *that one thing* from the end with *that one character* like I don’t think *redacted* is actually *redacted*, but also I’m prepared to be wrong! 😭)

And while Mia is the main character, and we’re in her head a fair amount, we’re not privy to everything going on in there, and she pulls a few tricks out of her sleeve as we go along! πŸ™Œ I loved how badass she was, and have a feeling she’s just going to get better and better.

Audiobook notes: I thought the narrator was fine. I honestly was a little surprised by his American accent; it didn’t feel quite right? But mostly, he did an ok job.

What this book is giving:
βœ… Grimdark Fantasy
βœ… Little girl β€œorphaned” at a young age
βœ… School for Assassins
βœ… Shadows
βœ… Mr. Kindly
βœ… Twists & Turns
