Interview with a Master
by Jason Luke
Oh my goodness! This book should be 10 out of 5 stars. Jonah Noble is my new book boyfriend for sure! 50 shades of what???
I feel extremely privileged to have been asked to beta read this book before anyone else. Once I read it, and sworn to secrecy, I wrote this on Facebook -
"I have just finished reading a story which is coming out soon which has totally blown me away! The ending has me in tears, and the final line is so heartbreaking! I cannot say what book it is or who it is by but believe me when I say this author will blow your socks off! Wow just wow"
I totally and utterly stand by those few sentences.
What this author has produced is something I would suggest anyone wanting to get into reading erotica and/or BDSM read before anything else. He manages to portray a Master so well. He also seems to have climbed inside a female's head as his portrayal of a woman's feelings is 100% spot on!
I love the fact that between the chapters, and dialogue, there's no unnecessary dialogue or feelings described. It's just them, doing what they do. It makes the story more readable not having to deal with anything other than the story itself which, if I haven't mentioned already, is a great story!
All the way through it I kept imagining reading Jonah Noble's Big Book of Rules! Also kept putting various bits and pieces into a virtual Jonah Noble's Instruction Manual for Masters and Subs!
The author describes everything extremely well, including what a room looks like in great detail. So much so that you can almost imagine it in your head. This is a sign of a good author for me, someone whose story I can 'see' as I read it.
As far as Jonah Noble goes as a believable character he works extremely well. His beliefs in himself, and his subs, stays exactly the same throughout the story. He knows what he wants and he will not be swayed from that path.
I have read a lot of erotica over the last 12 months. I have reached the stage, especially in YA and NA books, where it find myself skipping those scenes as they become very 'samey'. This book? I devoured every single last word of every single sentence, paragraph and page. The author describes the sex acts simply with no excess descriptions thrown in.
As much as I don't want to, I need to talk a little about the ending. It threw me totally! I was in tears reading it, and then tears again reading the final line! The author really got me with the ending, I was not expecting it at all. It was an amazing ending, and I guarantee it will make you think through what you have read, and things he has said, and you will find yourself understanding them better.
A few of the paragraphs which stood out for me -
"You're staying here," ......."There are plenty of spare bedrooms. You can sleep here and go home in the morning."
She shot a speculative glance at me and started to protest. "I don't have anything to wear."
I waved her words away. "Then sleep in the nude. It's not safe to drive in this weather.
"Define sexy."
I shrugged. "I don't think I can," I confessed. "I don't have a definition, nor do I have specific parameters. It's not any one thing about a woman that makes her sexy in my eyes, it's a collection of things - an intoxicating fusion of the obvious and the sublime that merge together."
"The last time I had an orgasm was two seconds ago," she said shyly. "Listening to you just made me come."
"It's not the room that commands obedience. It's not the props, or the decor. It's not the fear of any piece of equipment that compels a submissive to obey, nor is it the menace of any threat. It's the man that a woman submits herself to, Leticia. Not the room."
I went to the kitchen, found a glass in a cupboard and filled it with tap water. As a rule I never drink the stuff. Fish have sex in water ... think about that ...
I am totally in awe of this author and the fact he has produced something of this calibre as his first foray into the genre. I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book, and I cannot wait to see what he comes with next.
