How to Be a Heroine by Samantha Ellis
5.0
I loved this book. It was a great mixture of personal life stories, hopes and wishes for the future and great literature analyses. I feel Ellis goes into the book being very self aware, she knows she's biased with regards to some of her heroines, maybe all, but she's aware of this and tries to compensate for it. Her writing makes you want to pick up all these classics and give them another read or desperately want to read them if you haven't, and be able to see what you take from these heroines. Ellis is non-judgmental about the heroines we all choose to emulate and the ones we want to become, concluding we all are the writers of our own lives and should strive to be what which makes us happiest. The book is fast paced, Ellis is funny and witty and feminist without being too in your face. I recommend this to book lovers of all ages, and like Ellis encourage you to search for wonderful heroines and work to be the greatest heroines of our own lives.
