Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld

3.0

This book contains two elements I distain: talking about writing comedy (inherently unfunny) and COVID (nobody wants to relive that), yet somehow it still works. None of the characters feel entirely fleshed out and the pacing is odd. I wish the drawn out pen pal section were rewritten, though I understand why it's there. I enjoy the fantasy of having a pop star fall for a no name writer he meets, but I think he's simply too good and uncomplicated. All of the issues derive from the writer, which makes her realistically messy, yet still feels lopsided. I think it's a high three star but lacked just a little special charm to push it over the edge to four.
