Passing by Nella Larsen

4.0

for fans of Sula and The Vanishing Half (based on the premise of this book), this book is masterful. two friends, both black. one choosing to live within the black community and the other choosing to renounce it. both considered “passing” and in doing so, receive some of the benefits of being white women. these characters are juxtaposed really well and exemplify a stark difference between two women despite similar upbringing and experiences. understandably a classic and packs quite a punch for such a short book. will definitely revisit in the future
