Too much unjustified romantic pairing off, and Lirael's journey is less pressing and emotional than the earlier books. This felt like a action blockbuster. Some awesome setpieces, some thin romance and character development, a neat conclusion. Nice to spend more time in the Old Kingdom as always though, and I guess it's nice to see Lirael mostly happy for once.
The parallel storylines for the first half of the book really threw me off. The book doesn't gain that much from Ferin's viewpoint other than new worldbuilding. A defter author might have been able to weave Clariel and this book together instead.
