A Caribbean Heiress In Paris by Adriana Herrera

5.0

Absolutely adored this story!
While I enjoy the regency era romance fiction, I don't read a whole lot of it due to the general lack of representation of people of colour and queer people.

The author has done a splendid job in creating a  lighthearted regency romance, with bits of historical accuracy sprinkled throughout. The colonial slave trade has been abolished in this timeline. Unlike The Bridgerton (tv series), racism isn't something that got magically solved by a monarch entering into a bi-cultural marriage. Luz Alana is of Scottish and Domican descent, and she doesn't shy away from conversations surrounding this topic and putting people in their place. James isn't at all prepared for the whirlwind of emotions that she brings forth in him. I loved how devoted they both were to each other, even before  realising that the feelings were mutual. Not only the chemistry between Luz and James kept me engaged. The joking and teasing between them and their siblings and cousins felt very real and amusing.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration. This is a series that I'll definitely continue reading.
