I wish I had Madeline Miller’s way with words so I could write a review worthy of her book. Alas, I will try my best.
I read The Odyssey last year and my favourite book from it was Circe. She was also my favourite character. So naturally, as both a Circe and a TSOA fan, I very much wanted to read Miller’s second novel. ‘Circe’ was everything I wanted and more. I thoroughly enjoy taking Classical Studies and have a basic knowledge of characters such as King Minos and Medea so really enjoyed learning more about their stories in the book. I also really enjoyed learning more about Circe, a character I love so much.
Miller’s work is genuinely some of the most beautiful writing I have ever read and so I can without a doubt say that ‘Circe’ is a 5 star read. My only (very minor) complaint is that the long chapters meant it took me a while to read. However on the plus side this meant I had more time to savour the story. 5/5 stars!!
