s24g 's review for:
The River Is Waiting
by Wally Lamb
challenging
dark
reflective
medium-paced
Definitely NOT a light summer read.
TW: intoxication, addiction, horrific child death, SA, animal abuse (I have cPTSD and typically avoid horrible/scary content but in my opinion this was written so there was just enough info yet not super graphic)
This one will stick with me and I’ll re-read it at some point (rare for me).
Oh, and if you love 45/47 and think Covid was overhyped definitely don’t read this. I personally didn’t find the book to be “political” but when looking through reviews after I finished it, it seems those who rated it terribly either felt it was too political or written by AI (ludicrous).
