The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys
5.0
THIS BOOK. Oh my God. I am- no words.
No but seriously, this book is AMAZING. I completely fell in love in the characters and they had me laughing and also crying. My heart feels very happy.
The reason why I love historical fiction so much is that it's a great way to learn about other countries' history, and The Fountains of Silence tells the story of Spain's years of fascism beautifully. It broke my heart but it also made me feel hopeful, as the characters looked to better themselves and their lives.
Spain's history is a very complex one, so I look forward to reading more books about it. I learned a lot through this book; events that I had never even heard about.
So yes, this book is definitely a must-read. The characters are beautifully written and each has their own personality, story, and development. The romance in this book is also top tier and the yearning is *chef kiss*.
The beginning is definitely a bit slow, but it's completely worth it. It's a lot of suspense and secrets until everything starts unfolding and the only reaction possible is *GASPS AGRESSIVELY*. The plot twists were really good and even though a couple of them were a little predictable, it didn't take away from my enjoyment.
The Fountains of Silence has entered my top 10 books from 2020 and Ruta Sepetys keeps surprising (and hurting) me with her books <3.
