The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
by John Boyne
The author said of this book that he wanted to tell the story of the Holocaust "through the eyes of a rather naive child who couldn't possibly understand the terrible things taking place around him." I believe he succeeded. Bruno, the young German boy, was able to tell the story in a very powerful way. Through his eyes the Holocaust seemed so silly and absurd. I especially liked the play on words that the author used. They also taught a lesson. This would be a good book for a bookclub. There is a lot to discuss.
