Frindle
by Andrew Clements
This was a very silly short story. It’s a funny tale of how the main character, Nick Allens, invents a new word: frindle.
I learned two new words in this book (aside from frindle, which isn’t *really* a real word): etymological and lexicographic.
Etymology (see etymological): the study of words and how they have evolved.
Lexicography (see lexicographic): the editing or making of a dictionary. (Miriam Webster)
Interesting words aside, I did like this book. It was a goofy what-if story that was highly enjoyable. It’s also quite short, only about 100 pages (with relatively large text), so good if you want something fast.
