A Big Day for Baseball, a Magic Tree House book by Mary Pope Osborne, is a mystery, fiction, and non-fiction book for early readers. This chapter book was published on August 1, 2017, and is for ages 6+. This book is about the adventure of Jack and Annie, who are siblings from Frog Creek, Pennsylvania. They have a magic tree house that whisks them to the past to solve mysteries for Morgan, a librarian. This adventure took them back to the 1940s to a baseball game in New York. Their task is to find something special about a baseball game in only nine innings. Here they get to meet the famous baseball player Jackie Robinson while getting to be bat boys in the game. This book is a perfect book for young readers because it has elements of fantasy and non-fiction within the book. These books would be perfect for a student to read while researching a specific topic or person. These books aren't straight non-fiction which makes it more interesting for the kids reading them. This book could also be used as a choice book in my classroom library or as a book club book for students to learn and talk in small groups about the information. <fiction> <baseball> <early chapter book>
