i was worried about being able to get through this book because i know it is really sad, but what i was not prepared for was my lack of care for the characters. i thought clair put henry on a pedestal for no reason, and he did the same to her. neither of these people are so incredibly groundbreaking and i often found myself rolling my eyes at them.
i think the author does some really cool things with time traveling that do create for a some adventure, and a bit of gut punch. that was the main extent to which i enjoyed this book.
the end of this book confused me. i found it extremely odd that henry died of “old age” or whatever mysteriously illness rapidly plagued him towards the end, since it is revealed somewhat early on that he is shot by clair’s father by accident. i also found the authors choice of having his legs amputated to be such an odd way to create a problem to show degradation in henry’s life and how difficult the time traveling could be. lastly, i was intrigued by their daughter time traveling and having more control over it. however, there is an unfinished sequel as a bonus chapter that follows the daughter as an adult and she is so unbelievably annoying.
