Die Again by Tess Gerritsen

4.0

This is a delicious series of books. The mysteries are always taut and unusual, while Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are complex and compelling protagonists. Dr. Isles, in particular, is fascinating: emotionally reserved, yet broken and heartsick. Die Again continues to explore how the events and choices made in the previous novels continue to haunt her. Jane, meanwhile, is trying to be the best friend she can when fundamentally she has trouble connecting to Maura's psychological and philosophical dilemmas.

The structure of Die Again is interesting, as the action keeps flipping from a Boston murder investigation and an African safari gone horribly wrong. How the two connect its revealed relatively early, but the why is the heart of the story and makes for a suspenseful read.
