1984 started off very well. I loved George Orwell's writing, I was loving his descriptions, and the story was keeping me at the edge of my seat. I am someone who loves dystopian novels, so that I was loving this was not a surprise. This was true for most of the book but I wish Orwell had kept the momentum of the story up. Instead he decided to take a turn towards the end of the book and insert one of his essays. Yes, the essay was related but it was definitely not as interesting. I found myself reading but not really understanding. Maybe I am just not smart enough for Orwell, or maybe I just stopped caring. Either way, after the essay was over, I had trouble getting back into the story. Orwell took the plot into a dark hole and I felt that the last part of the book was not as strong as the beginning. If Orwell had kept the momentum going, I feel I would have given this a higher rating. Overall I did not dislike 1984, but I want to read more into what exactly Orwell was trying to say by his ending aside from the obvious.
