Carey is remarkably good at creating an intelligent woman tangled in intrigue--who also happens to be the best courtesan ever. Her interpretation of real places and creative blending of timelines (especially when it comes to religion) continues to be enjoyable.

In my mind, this series is like a super-fastidious Game of Thrones...with less sex. (Well, and obviously it's focused on one person.)
