When I tell you I was obsessed with this book in my early teens, I mean I was OBSESSED. Patch was my first book crush and is still probably the biggest. I hadn’t read this series for many years, so I decided to give it another read and, honestly, it has aged. I’ll give it some grace as something written in 2009 and targeted towards a specific audience but the writing and the story do not hold up. Will this book always hold a place in my heart? Of course it will. But I can’t help but read it as an adult with a different lens. I’ll keep going with the rest of the series and see how I go, but not off to a great start.
