Flight Behavior
by Barbara Kingsolver
Oh, I did not want this book to end. It's a well-done novel about a very interesting woman and her family, wrapped inside a barely-fictional global warming warning, AND IT WORKS. And it deals with the challenges of fighting global warming and small town life separately and together, and Dellarobia's personal life, as wrapped up in both, also. The main characters have secrets and feelings that are believable and round them out well. I also didn't see much of anything coming, plot wise, but these characters' journeys are so believably structured that I never felt blindsided by the storyline. It's that happy middle ground--I don't feel outsmarted by Flight Behavior, and I don't feel like I outsmarted it. Reading it was just like being there with the book, and it was great.
