The Ice Palace by Tarjei Vesaas
3.0

I feel like I didn't realize how this book impacted me while I was reading it.
It was good, though not a book that I would call a favorite. There were amazing scenes, amazing lines and especially amazing metaphors and symbols such as the ice palace resembling depression, grief and sadness.
Sadly though, I couldn’t connect to the characters that much. Probably because of the age and the experience our protagonist Siss makes, which I myself haven’t experienced personally and therefor can’t completely understand her feelings.
In addition to that, the writing style was kind of simple and honestly, I am not used to that and I wasn’t feeling it.
But all in all, I believe the story about Siss and Unn shows really well how the journey through loss and grief is and in conclusion, I liked it. The problem is, I adored specific scenes or chapters but others just didn’t work completely for me. Therefor I am giving this book 3 stars. Enjoyed it but just not near being a favorite. :)
