Shucked
by Kate Canterbary
I really loved reading this. It wasn’t a perfect read for me; I found parts of a little slow, a little dense, and that was a bit of a problem for me. Overall, though, this was a delight to read. The writing was very good, very solid; the dialogue was absolutely spot on.
The chemistry between Sunny and Beckett was so good, and if you like a slow burn vibe, this is a good one to sink your teeth into. I will say it’s not a full slow burn in my opinion but it feels like it. There’s a really delicious build up of sexual tension, and it’s such a relief when it finally hits boiling point. The dynamic between them is so fun. Sunny gives as good as she gets, and Beckett was so gone for her, it was adorable to see.
There was a really lovely, beautiful intimacy between the two characters that I loved reading. It was just so tactile; they’re always touching, even when they aren’t having sex, and there were some scenes that I feel are burned in my memory –. The sex scenes though are very hot and very well-written.
I also liked how their relationship played out. There was a maturity to it, a real sense of having to work for their happy ending, that I really appreciated. Sunny handles Beckett in a way that felt sensible and satisfying; letting him know when he’s overstepped and giving him space to work things out for himself, even when he doesn’t want to take that space. It was just very well-constructed.
As I said at the start of the review, there are parts that feel slow, and others repetitive; I think some of it could have been trimmed down to ease that. But I was so swept up with the romance of it all that I didn’t really care. A lovely, lovely, lovely romance.
Content Notes: Small town, hate-to-love, brother’s best friend / best friend’s sister, slow burn, grumpy/sunshine.

The FMC and MMC both see the other with an OM/OW respectively simultaneously. They’re both a bit jealous but nothing happens between the MCs and anyone else, and there’s no actual flirtation between them and the OPs.Merged review:
