Anna: The Biography
by Amy Odell
This biography is well-researched and effectively structured. I’ve got a higher-than-average interest in couture fashion and was a fan of Vogue and Anna Wintour going into this reading. I’m a bigger fan after. She is flawed, of course, and the author does a fair job of highlighting her missteps, but her influence and impact are undeniable. The audio version is wonderfully narrated. Quoting a source in the Epilogue, the author states, “If you’re trying to climb a social ladder in New York… and you’re trying to get invited to the Met Gala… you’re always going to feel unsuccessful. If you’re trying to look for people’s validation… that’s a whole different ballgame… but if you’re talking about a love of clothing… a love of expression… a love of color… a love of culture… a love of how putting things on can make women feel about themselves and their place in the world… those are measures of success that no one woman is ever going to be able to stop someone from feeling.” That sums up why I sew custom clothing and appreciate those who value fashion as wearable art. ❤️
