Good Duke Gone Wild by Bethany Bennett

4.0

Caroline Danvers is the daughter of a vicar and secretly writes er0tic stories in hopes of earning enough money to buy a nice cottage in the country away from prying eyes. When her father casts her out after discovering her books, she travels to London to her aunt & uncle’s bookshop. Here, she meets Dorian, the Duke of Holland. The handsome Duke inspires her writing and in time her books are flying off the shelves as the ton races to determine the identity of the author and her characters.

Dorian needs help cataloging and selling off his late wife’s library, so he hires Caroline, the beautiful woman he can’t stop thinking of, to do the job. While going through the library, Cato finds love letters to the late duchess, but they aren’t from the Duke! The two then work together to find the mystery lover and give into their own desires along the way.

I really enjoyed Caroline’s character. She’s not an 18 year old debutant, she’s working class, she has hopes and dreams and the drive to achieve them on her own! Her relationship with her aunt, uncle, and cousins was so sweet to see. The three cousins obviously have a strong bond from page one and this continues throughout the book as they support one another through many ups and downs. Caro’s relationship with Dorian was interesting. There are quite obvious class differences, and Caro doesn’t shy away from pointing out the inequalities of their relationship and position in society, and to his credit, Dorian doesn’t shy away from it or dismiss it. They had quite a few things to overcome, his dragon of a mother being one, but they were able to find a way through.

This was my first Bethany Bennett book, but it won’t be my last! I hope the next book is focused on Caro’s cousin, Constance as she was such a fun, lovable character!

Thanks to the publisher for the complimentary arc. All opinions are my own.
