An interesting read for sure. There were a couple of moments like The "duel" that turned out to be our lead having to kill her mother where it felt like our author was trying to stir up a bit of intrigued in the reader before the reveal but instead fell a little flat and read as though our lead was dense instead.
Also the ending felt a little optimistic. I'm all for power fantasy but just based on some of the prior occurances in the story it didn't feel terribly natural. It felt like the correct trajectory but there was a misstep somewhere I can't quite put my finger on to make it feel right.
Otherwise an interesting rags to riches story of a young woman finding her own power in a world that wants her to have nothing. A beautifully crafted world that hides the rotten core beneath.
