Bound by Duty
by Cora Reilly
This was definitely an improvement from the first book in my opinion. Cora writes some really compelling conflict scenes that move me. However, there are also some cliche moments where I fell right out of it.
Some dialogue that I found unbelievable- like men referring to some unmentionables as “wet” and “heat”.
Had to cringe right past that.
Her formula is similar from book to book so far, but I feel like it’s disguised well with how all her main characters come together. She can certainly write some tension/character conflict. The mafia world isn’t really a mafia world in my opinion and sits more in the background, which is fine by me because I don’t mind the plot being more character driven.
Dante and Valentina have been my favorite couple so far. Don’t hate. I loved Aria and Luca but I think Dante’s backstory was more convincing.
I’m still confused on why these guys are supposed to be extremely bad people but we really don’t glimpse too terribly much of their bad side. Still like the series a lot and the audiobooks are great. I’m hoping the overall plot development and character depth improve over the next few books.
