This is a pretty run of the mill romantacy. Elves and Fae are the main fantastical beings, the plot is pretty.... same same as a lot of other fantasies at this level. Not much world building outside of the standard that an Elise Kova or SJM fan would be familiar with.
also, the pronunciation of the names in the audiobook is a bit distracting. Yeerun is said like urine the whole time and tettle (or whatever) sounds like kettle or little every time. It was little hard taking urine seriously.
I think the romances moved at a break neck speed. Like no yearning just in there like swimwear from the jump, which is not my preference. I want to see some aching, longing, I want desire to be on their breath but not in their words - for an EXTENDED period of time. Not a frickin 1 week camping trip to find their person in the woods like super easily.
We as the audience are kept in the dark for a lot of the world building, I assume so that the twists will be surprising but if it were fully flushed like a fantasy maybe should be everything is really predictable. And the plot is so standard/convential/common place it is already extremely predictable so maybe don't hide little secrets from me author.
I enjoyed the book as a casual read, but I am definitely more of of contemporary fiction reader lately so this was a little lack luster depth wise and I felt myself missing connectivity to this piece. I wasn't attached to the characters and many of them didn't have obvious goals you could root for, aside from escaping and even that is fruitless, so it felt underwhelming at the end.
It's a good casual fantasy. It's pretty cozy. Just not the beat I've been on lately.
