The Meaning of Mice by Charles van Sandwyk

5.0

For such a tiny book (the Folio Society edition that arrived at my house the other day nestles beautifully in the hand) it contains a multitude of joys. The text is spartan but the illustrations are wonderful. I find the illustrations of tales about anthropomorphised animals far more pleasurable than the tales themselves and this is no exception. The details are stunning and wonderfully produced and the whole idea of a tiny world mirroring ours (but without the attendant evils) is beautifully expressed.
