Immortality: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz
4.0

Be still my beating heart!! I LOVED "Anatomy" so I practically died when I saw that a sequel had come out. Though not quite as strong as its predecessor, "Immortality" brings fresh and interesting content to the table. Sadly, we bid farewell to Edinburgh early on in the book and head to 19th century London, where Hazel is summoned to treat the ailing Princess Charlotte of Wales. There, Hazel is plunged into the Bridgerton-esque London high society. Although it's no Scotland, the new setting is still fun and saucy in its own right. Even better than London high society is Hazel's dive into London's secret society "Companions to the Death," which, as the name suggests, has dark and potentially deadly secrets of its own.

I could honestly read a whole book just starring Hazel and her quest to become one of the first female physicians, which is good considering how this book is quite light on the romance. Dana Schwartz really strung me along until the very end—I was practically holding my breath reading because I was so nervous that it would end tragically just like "Anatomy." FORTUNATELY things turned out how I wanted, but only after like 300 pages of struggle and nervous anticipation. Ultimately, I just wish there was MORE Hazel and Jack content and LESS Simon von Ferris!! I hate love triangles, and the waffling back and forth between the two was making me crazy toward the end.

Still though, I really enjoyed this book and every place it took me. It's just as gothic and moody as the first, and though it definitely keeps you on edge, thankfully resolves itself in a satisfying manner at the end.
