The Umbra King by Jamie Applegate Hunter

1.0

Let's see where to begin?
Oh yeah, right after Rory meets the Umbra King, whom she hates and has vowed revenge on because
Spoilerhe killed her sister
, but ohmygorsh he's hot and she's horny for him.

But of course,
Spoilerhe's not so bad, really
and Rory is forced - FORCED, I tell you - to go meet him in her prison issue silk nightie. She hates him, she wants to kill him, but she is throbbing when she sees him. Yeah. Throbbing.

There is the required Pretty Woman montage because this is a horrible nightmare prison but you get to
Spoilerwear custom made clothes and go out and shop for pretty things, and attend balls wearing gorgeous gowns.
And soon enough, the Umbra King looks at
Spoilera bruised Rory and asks her "who did this to you?" as if she wasn't a serial killer with the longest sentence in this prison.

The world building is done in such a lazy way, basically just changing the names of things for made up ones. Unfortunately, panties are still panties. Guess the author couldn't come up with a new word for that. Or another word for Shadow that isn't Umbra since we've already seen a male lead with Umbra in his title.

And of course, we have Rory and the Umbra King be
Spoilermates, because of course, they are although they give it a fancy word, but also use the word mate.

I won't be reading any more of this series because it's generic and lazily written and has every boring trope thrown in. I'm very glad it was free on Kindle Unlimited because I'd hate to pay for what is basically a rewrite of every other mediocre YA fantasy romance.
