I read this a few years ago. It is a story about a middle-class character a bloke that is sympathetic with left leanings. His wife is in a socialist book club (if you think this is endemic to the 1930s England Jacobin touts a Verso socialist book club to which I have subscribed.) Some things are perennial. I thought it was a fun book although political was definitely lighter fare from Orwell. Orwell himself was a struggling left-wing writer until his hit book in 1943 of Animal Farm (an anti-Stalinist satire) and was always angling to get his books on a socialist book club list.
