darcygabe 's review for:
The Vegetarian
by Han Kang
This book needs MANY trigger warnings: it’s a book about anorexia, death by suicide, sexual assault, and physical violence.
It actually has nothing to do with vegetarianism at all.
It’s a strange little book; it was tracking as a 3-star for me until the last 15 pages or so when the author really ties it all together and makes the point more clear.
It’s hard to articulate what exactly it’s about, but I think RF Kuong’s review does a good job.
I guess it’s about what it means to have a body.
What it means to control this meat sack of flesh we all have - and how in this world others like to exert a lot of control over others meat sack of flesh.
Which is probably why the protagonist starts to be very repelled by meat. But it’s not actually about meat at all.
