The Princess Search by Melanie Cellier, Melanie Cellier

Five stars ✨
Honestly, I was really hesitant about this book. The idea of an ugly duckling retelling sounded very weird. Just weird.
But it ended up being one of my favorite books in the whole series!!
I had trouble paying attention at first, (probably because of all the noise), but I can usually read in blaring noise. So I took notes about the plot as I read...
AND I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH AND I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!
It kept me up way too late, and it was just so good! Plenty of action, the perfect amount of romance, and some drama.
She gets to confront her homes and people from the past, all the while falling for Prince Fredric....
But I thought the scene where they kiss and confess their feelings for each other was illy timed. Really? Why right in front of the enemies headquarters, while you have ten uncaptured villains inside?
Evie is a great, relatable character, and she's actually not flat. She has her insecurities--when she was younger, she moved every few years because she didn't fit in anywhere. Cue the ugly duckling.
Prince Fredric did make me really mad...
If you saw my status update, I was yelling at him in caps, threatening to throw things at him...
But when I heard the truth, I was SOOO excited!!! Frederic and Evie are one of my favorite couples in the whole series now!!
It did bug me whenever they were like super formal with each other, though.
Celine was kind of annoying, and I don't get why she'd purposely thrust herself into danger. Maybe that's just her character, but I would never ask for danger. Well, she got more than she bargained for.
Cassian was also kind of ridiculous. He meets this girl, and one week later says, "I'm in love with her but can't say a single word in her presence."
Really? How do you know that if you never talked to her, Cassian?
This book was in first person, ( *sigh of relief* ), and I really liked the writing style. There were some small grammatical errors, ie. missing commas, backwards quotation marks.
I can't believe that this series is over. I've read all of it except the Ava one, (which I'm skipping.) I can't remember that last time I've read such a good series. The romance was so sweet, the fairy tales were properly executed but didn't feel too young... I just loved it.
*sniffles*
Why did it have to be over to soon? At least I have two knock off series to look forwards to.
*another sniffle*
I'll miss all these characters. Especially Alyssa and Max. And Celeste and William...
And Evie and Frederic.

CW: Two almost kisses, two kisses, one semi detailed, the other no detail, blushes, noticing warmth, tingles, embraces, Celine teases about Frederic needing some knife fights, Evie puts a knife in a mans leg and arm to defend herself, unknown wether they survive, one guard is found dead with gashes, the other is almost dead but makes it, three people die from poison berries, an almost kidnapping, a sword is held to Evies throat, a death threat, Evie was rejected everywhere she went as a child, remembering a massacure on Evies childhood caravan, Evie found them all dead when she was tenish, some fighting.
