kkyulkive 's review for:
The Year I Became Isabella Anders
by Jessica Sorensen
sooo i went backwards, and read this after finishing the second book because i am a loser and didn't realise this whole sunnyvale thing was a series. oops.
anywho, it was actually quite interesting reading this after having read the second book because it provided me with some much-needed establishment of characters, which i had stated as a downfall in my review of the second book.
having read the second book, i immediately noticed a shift and change in the vibe between this first one and the second one. whilst 'the year i became isabella anders' was all about self-discovery and empowerment (to an extent) for isa, the second one was when all the drama really kicked off.
i loved seeing kai in all his charming glory here, and i did appreciate the background info on isa's family and the dynamics within her life but holy heck, again i don't see why this whole series couldn't just be compacted into one book??!? there is honestly not enough going on in each book for it to be a true, coherent story in itself and while i do understand this whole entice the readers ploy (because i admit it, i'm hooked!), it just doesn't sit right with me that this whole series literally has the arc of a single novel.
