paracosm 's review for:
The Sign of Four
by Arthur Conan Doyle
This isn't exactly the best Sherlock Holmes stories. The mystery was okay, but I feel like it could have been shorter. There are large info-dumps and scenes in which literally nothing happens. It's like Doyle was trying to meet a certain number of words. There's, of course, the racism that you might expect for a book written in the XIX century.
The romance felt rushed. Watson and Mary knew each other for less than a week before getting married. Sherlock himself has more anti-hero vibes in this novel than in others, but I don't mind.
