Murder Before Evensong
by Richard Coles
Agatha Christie crossed with Downton Abbey.
It definitely reads like a debut, there’s a lot of unnecessary detail and not enough clues for the reader to work out whodunnit. It also took me a while to realise it was set in the 1980s - I think that could have been made clearer. There were a lot of characters to keep track of - I think Theo’s introduction could’ve been kept for a later book.
But I still enjoyed it. It was a good introduction to the village and the characters, and I would read another in this series.
