I've been trying to get my thoughts together about this book since I finished it. It took me a LONG time to get through this. I'd read some, put it down, come back to it...rinse & repeat. I'm not sure if it's bc of our current world affairs/politics or because I am reading it while I'm living in the area of Germany it takes place in or if it was just a slow story. Regardless, I loved it. I thought the writing was beautiful and so different from anything I've ever read (the story is narrated by Death). I loved the characters and their stories. I spent the last 100ish pages crying/trying to not wake my husband up with aggressive nose blowing at midnight. If you are a WW2 fiction fan, I highly recommend this.
