The Thread Collectors by Shaunna J. Edwards, Alyson Richman
I picked this up on audio, Robin Miles is one of my favorite narrators, and it was hard to put down. The story follows the POVs from Black and Jewish people in the Civil War. Stella loves Willie but is auctioned off to a white man as his mistress. This arrangement is still one of enslavement, her mother and sister remain near. Willie, her love, is enslaved by the white man who purchased Stella, but he runs away using one of Stella’s sewn maps and joins the union army. There he befriends Jacob, a Jewish man who is a musician for his infantry. Their shared love of music binds them together in the face of a brutal war. Jacob’s wife Lily, has strong abolitionists views and does her part from NY. It’s not until Jacob goes missing that she realizes how much the men who’ve been fighting in the war have been through.
We can’t forget young Teddy who becomes a close companion of Willie and Jacob.
A good read to spend the day with.
