Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder

Did not finish book.

1.0

I did not like this book. At all. Not even a crumb. A hair. A speck. The plot was pointless, the story was repetitive, the syntax confusing, and the characters flat. Nothing about this book made me want to keep reading it. First of all, the format is a giant run on sentence and I hated everything about it. It seems that everyone decided that the best way to enforce the allegorical nature of this story was to just give everyone who reads it a migraine. Second, her husband called her a bitch so she just decided to become one, which is fine bc hello me too, but she went so far as to start acting like a dog—eating rabbits, killing cats, whining about everything. Third, THE ONLY CHARACTERS THAT HAD NAMES WERE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS. The three main players were just “the mother,” “the father,” “the boy.” Fourth, I didn’t like Bunny by Mona Awad and I don’t like Kafka and this book managed to be the ungodly lovechild of both. I love a good weird story but this was just too much and I honestly wouldn’t recommend it.
