Some interesting ideas in here, but the book gets cornier and more self serious as it goes on. Feels like a dumber version of ‘Annihilation’ to me!
There is some solid descriptive writing here but none of the characters are really fleshed out except for Harold and honestly I found him kinda insufferable and melodramatic. Even so, I would have given this 3 stars for pretty good writing, if not for the totally dumb reveal that Neil is some kinda space god and Harold realizes this because his name spells “I am Alien” backwards. Really no other word for that dumb twist that cringey.
