sparse, claustrophobic, melancholic.  a perfect example of how a very contained and small narrative can effectively use the mundane to explore broader themes and ideas.

I think if you like Beautiful World, Where Are You, Deborah Levy, and are kind of disappointed by Elena Ferrante despite loving her premises, settings, and themes, you have to read some Natalia Ginzburg.  but maybe that's just me.
